The only part I really don’t like about the holidays is trying to figure out what to get everyone. And with the way the economy is right now, I don’t have a lot of money to throw around on expensive gifts. So I thought I would share with you one that could be cherished for years to come; a family cookbook.
My family did this a couple years ago, gathering up old family favorites and getting them all together in one book. It was a little bit of work but the end result was perfect. What better then to take that old box of recipe cards and make them into a beautiful book?
There’s a couple of ways you can do this, depending on your budget. For the less expensive, you can make it yourself. Just find or make your own template and type out the recipes. You can get as creative as you’d like. Most Microsoft Word programs have premade templates for recipes you can use or you can do a search for them online.
Then, you can print them out and put them in a binder. You can get plain binders at your local office supply store, Walmart or Target, with the clear covers so you can make up your own decorative book cover. If you want to spend a little more, you can order printed binders online. Zazzle actually has a deal going on right now on their Avery Custom Binders for as low as $9.95 after using promo code AVERYCUSTOM1. It’s all up to how much you want to spend.
The second option, the one we did, cost a bit more but really are worth the money. You can custom order a recipe book online thru different companies that specialize in it. We used Tastebook. All you do it upload all your recipes and then pick out your binder and they do the rest for you. You can even order more pages at a later time to add to your book. Prices range from $19.95 - $34.95. With the hollidays fast approaching, they’ll be having some great sales to go along to make them an even better deal.
